The vision of Birth of Basketball is to realign the world with the original vision of Dr. James Naismith, created in 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts, while creating a lasting legacy that carries that vision forward for generations.

Created by Stephen “Stix” Josey, Birth of Basketball is more than a documentary series about history. It is a vision to reconnect the global basketball community — NBA and WNBA players, ABA players, Hall of Famers, Harlem Globetrotters, basketball legends, coaches, leaders, and communities from around the world — back to Springfield to honor Dr. Naismith and the game’s roots.

With Springfield College and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as important pillars of this story, Birth of Basketball creates a meeting place where the past, present, and future of basketball come together.

But the vision of Stephen “Stix” Josey goes beyond documenting the past. It is about creating something bigger than a single film, bigger than a single generation, and bigger than one person. It is about building a living legacy that continues to educate, inspire, connect, and bring people together long after its creator is gone.

This is about honoring Dr. James Naismith and his vision from 1891, honoring Springfield, honoring the Hall of Famers and legends, embracing the global game, and building a legacy that can live forever.
