Mission

The mission of Birth of Basketball is to preserve, honor, and share the story of basketball’s origins while bringing the world back to Springfield, Massachusetts — the birthplace and Mecca of the game — to pay homage to Dr. James Naismith and the vision that started it all.

Through this documentary series, we connect the global basketball community to its roots, exploring how Dr. Naismith’s creation in 1891 grew from one gym into a game that transformed lives, connected cultures, and inspired generations around the world.

With Springfield College and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as important pillars, we aim to preserve this history, celebrate its legacy, and inspire future generations to understand where the game came from and why its birthplace will always matter.

We want the world to come home to where the game was born.
