The Birth
Waliyy Dixon's journey into basketball history began on the local courts of Linden, New Jersry. Blessed with raw power and world-class athletic genes, he dominated the high school circuit, setting a school record with 1,760 career points. He firmly put his hometown on the basketball map after winning the Reebok National Slam Dunk Contest, showcasing the terrifying above-the-rim vertical ability that would soon captivate the sports world.
The Game Grows
Dixon took his explosive physical attributes to the collegiate level as a dynamic forward for Rutgers University and Benedict College. Following college, he broke into the professional ranks playing in the United States Basketball League (USBL) and earned competitive NBA tryout training camp invites.
However, the game truly expanded when Dixon took his skills to the concrete. Better known by his iconic streetball moniker "Main Event" he became a foundational pioneer and global breakout star of the AND1 Mix Tape Tour from 2001 to 2006. Traveling the world, "Main Event" helped scale street basketball into an international pop-culture phenomenon. His rim-wrecking dunks at Rucker Park and on televised arena tours altered the style, swagger, and culture of modern basketball for an entire generation.
